Are the Browns making the right choice starting their rookie QB?

The Browns announced they will continue to use rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson as their starting quarterback for their Week 12 game against the Broncos. Is this the right decision?

Thompson-Robinson, Cleveland’s fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, certainly didn’t do anything special as he threw for just 165 yards and one interception in the Week 11 win against the Steelers. The Browns also signed veteran QB Joe Flacco to the practice squad.

Adding Flacco would add much-needed depth and experience to QB Deshaun Watson after a season-ending injury. But Cleveland may find Flacco a better choice to help the nation achieve its lofty ambitions this season.

The former first-round pick and Super Bowl XLVII MVP has thrown for 42,320 yards, 232 touchdowns and 147 interceptions in his career. Thompson-Robinson has just 295 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions in four games.

No player needs to play Hero ball thanks to Cleveland’s defense, which has allowed the league’s fewest yards per game (243.3) and sixth-most points per game (18). But the team needs better production than Thompson-Robinson has provided thus far.

The rookie game could start again on Sunday as Denver allows the third-most yards per game (400.1) and third-most points per game (26.8). But it won’t be easy.

The Broncos are surprisingly one of the hottest teams in the league and are currently riding a four-game winning streak against the Chiefs and Bills. The Browns would be wise not to make a quick quarterback change, but Thompson-Robinson could make some short-term noise as the team struggles to make the playoffs.
