The Pittsburgh Steelers released offensive lineman Matt Canada on Tuesday. This surprised everyone, and coach Mike Tomlin gave the impression that there would be no personnel changes during the season. Unfortunately, Tomlin’s offense, particularly that of quarterback Kenny Pickett, did not improve at all and changes had to be made with seven games remaining. Pickett told the media on Wednesday that he had spoken to the Canadian and wished him well, but knew he and the team needed to focus on moving forward. Kenny Pickett on Matt Canada shooting: “You don’t want to see it. None of the coaches want to lose their jobs. We must all be good.

“Let’s call the coach and wish him luck. “We had a nice chat, but you’d better hurry back and get ready to go.”

The Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals this week, and offensive coordinators Eddie Faulkner and Mike Sullivan will get their first look at the offense calling the plays that will help Pickett succeed. Pickett’s teammates came out Wednesday full of confidence in the young point guard.
