Justin Jefferson deletes social media accounts due to harassment
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is fed up.
The All-Pro tight end, who led the NFL in receptions (543) in four games before suffering an injury in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs, has closed his Instagram account and deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account . Jefferson’s decision to leave social media comes after he was harassed by followers calling for him to return from injury. This was mainly due to their interest in fantasy football.
- You have no idea. There are so many people out there who really criticize you and talk really, really bad about you and call you names. Stay healthy and try to be your best on the field,” Jefferson said during a press conference on Friday, Nov. 24. “At the end of the day, that’s it. I’m more worried about the team and my health,” he said.
The recipient said he doesn’t personally hear public criticism, but is bombarded somewhat daily on social media. “I don’t go out much to listen in public,” Jefferson continued. “But these days, social media is such a big part of our daily lives that you see it everywhere.”

The reporters asked him why he chose to respond publicly to the messages he received. “I’ve been on this drug for five or six weeks,” Jefferson said. “I `m tired of this. I’m disappointed. “You want to be on the field, you want to play and you’re tired of other sources telling you all kinds of things about how you feel that aren’t true.”
The media questioned claims that Jefferson served longer than necessary due to contract extension disputes and/or represented himself for future negotiations. Jefferson was eligible for an extension last season.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me. Because everybody has an opinion about what they think or do,” Jefferson explained. “I know what I’m doing and I know it’s not for the sake of a contract. This is not a condition. “I said from the beginning of the season: [the contract] is not my priority.”
Jefferson is entering the fourth season of his first four-year, $13.1 million rookie contract. Minnesota has already exercised a $19.7 million fifth-year team option on the former first-round pick, who is under contract through 2023.

Minnesota is 6-5 this season, including 5-1 without Jefferson. The team’s next game is Nov. 27 in Minneapolis against the Chicago Bears.
As the Vikings enter their bye week after their Monday Night Football game against Chicago, there has been speculation that he will take the field against the Bears (3-8).
