FIA makes decision on Michael Masi F1 return which would infuriate Lewis Hamilton
Michael Masi has been replaced as F1 race director after “human error” forced Lewis Hamilton out of the 2021 championship, while Max Verstappen benefited from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem says he has no hesitation in bringing former F1 director Michael Masi back into the sport.
The Australian has been banned from the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to the scandal. Max Verstappen won his first F1 title at the expense of Lewis Hamilton, but it was only after Masi’s safety car made a mistake in the late stages that he was able to do so.
The FIA later admitted that Masih’s “human error” affected the outcome of the title race. He then left the governing body and returned home to run the V8 Supercars series.
Ben Sulayem was not in charge of the FIA at the time of the mistake and took over a week after the controversial title race. But he insists he wants the ousted Australian back.

Such a move would surely upset Hamilton and his Mercedes team.
