Browns TE David Njoku makes NSFW statement about QB Joe Flacco.
Cleveland Browns quarterback David Njoku doesn’t have fond memories of the last time he shared the field with Joe Flacco.
In that game, Flacco helped the New York Jets to an improbable 31-30 comeback win over the Browns in 2022. The Jets scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes. Both times it was by Flacco.
As Scott Petrak of BrownsZone.com reported, Njoku said on Wednesday, Nov. 29: “Man, I remember that shit from last year. “He stood his ground and did what he had to do. “I’m glad he’s with us now,” he said.
Njoku was able to catch a pass from Flacco during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Flacco was signed on Nov. 20, but could get the nod with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the concussion protocol. Joe Flacco moved to the backup spot.
The Browns announced Wednesday that Flacco will return to P.J. It was announced that he moved up to second on the depth chart, passing Walker.
“Joe will be the backup this week while Dorian goes through protocols,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. Flacco has yet to throw a pass this season, but that looks to change on Sunday. Even if Thompson-Robinson follows protocol this week, the Browns may not want to release the rookie who hasn’t practiced much this week. Flacco was inactive in the Browns’ last game against the Broncos, a 29-12 loss. In the third quarter, Thompson-Robinson left and Walker was relieved. Walker was 6 of 13 in the first quarter and totaled 56 yards as the Browns attempted a comeback.
Joe Flacco is building chemistry with Browns receivers.
Flacco took over the reins of the first-team offense this week and bonded with his receivers. The Browns’ tumultuous ride of pass receivers continues as they adjust to another change, with Flacco likely becoming the fourth starting quarterback this season.
“I think in general if you’re a veteran and you’ve seen a lot, I think younger people are definitely drawn to it,” Stefanski said. “There will be a lot of backup players coming. We’re not unique, we have certain standards for how we play offensively and as a team, and those standards don’t change depending on who’s on the team.
Amari Cooper is the Browns’ best pass catcher but is recovering from a rib injury suffered against the Broncos. Cooper did not practice Wednesday but is expected to play against the Rams on Sunday.
With Deshaun Watson out, there weren’t many opportunities to make big plays through the air. That could change with Flacco, who is known for having a big arm.
“They all want to understand our players.” Stefanski said. “How does PJ run that route and how do our receivers come out on that route? Dorian, how does he see her? So it varies from person to person. Everyone has a different level of comfort with certain concepts. So I think our quarterback’s job is to adjust to our receivers.
The Browns are underdogs by 3.5 points against the Rams.
