JUST-IN: Boston red Sox hit with unexpected good news
MLB Rumors: Red Sox ‘bound, Determined to Do Big’
The Red Sox appear to be planning to make a big splash this Major League Baseball offseason.
You may not need a report to make many suggestions. Boston has finished last in the American League East the last two seasons, something that has only happened once this century. That’s unacceptable for a franchise with such a storied history, so you’d think the Red Sox would make some noise this winter with hopes of returning to the playoffs in 2024. Here’s what Jon Heyman heard. The New York Post’s MLB Insider provided an update on Wednesday’s Bleacher Report thread, giving Shohei Ohtani a slice of Boston’s offseason mindset. “Some of the other teams signed with the Red Sox,” Heyman said. “I heard some rumors about them. Of course, compared to Ohtani, Babe Ruth was the starter. He must do something big. People are saying that Boston is determined to do big things, whether it’s Otani or something else. They have to do something.”
What kind of splash can the Red Sox make? Boston can certainly use a starting pitcher up front, and Craig Breslow and the team look to use Jordan Montgomery and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. And of course, the Red Sox can’t be ruled out as a potential landing spot for Ohtani, even though the dual-threat phenomenon has generated more interest than any other free agent in league history. As such, Boston is poised to open the 2024 season with a more competitive roster than last season.
