Vikings Urged to Bench Josh Dobbs for Unproven QB
The Minnesota Vikings are being urged to bench Josh Dobbs because of his lack of experience as a quarterback. Before deciding whether or not to keep Josh Dobbs as their starting quarterback, the team has one more option: fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall.
Due to Dobbs’ six turnovers in the past two weeks, veteran Nick Mullens has been considered the front-runner to take his place. Dane Mizutani, a reporter for the Pioneer Press, isn’t sold on Mullens, who has a career record of 5-12 and has thrown 27 touchdowns to 23 interceptions in six seasons.
In a column published on November 28, Mizutani suggested that the Vikings should bench Dobbs to evaluate Hall.
“At this point in his career, after being selected in the draft in 2023, he is an unknown commodity. Mizutani wrote, “Why wouldn’t the Vikings at least want to see what they have in him?” The Vikings’ ceiling with Hall may be lower than that of any other option they currently have. Additionally, it may be superior to what anyone could have imagined. Finding out which is the case is worthwhile.
“A definitive objective of winning a Super Bowl presumably vacated the premises for the Vikings when establishment quarterback Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles’ ligament last month. That made it certain that they would have to continue with a backup for the foreseeable future… We should just unturn each stone en route.”
When Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury on October 29, Jaren Hall shined in his deferred Vikings debut. At the same time that Mullens was on the IR with a back injury and Dobbs had just arrived in Week 9, Hall was given his first career start.
Lobby looked amazing on his most memorable drive, finishing 5-of-6 pass endeavors for 83 yards against the Atlanta Birds of prey. The drive came to an abrupt end. Close to the objective line, Corridor endured a horrible shot that landed him in blackout convention, finishing his initial beginning only minutes into the game.
Dobbs performed admirably in Hall’s absence, winning the starting position from the former Arizona Cardinals quarterback.
In the restricted look at Corridor, he seems like he merits a went for the gig. However, the Vikings are evaluating a significantly larger body of work from practice and training camp internally before making a decision.
Similar as Mike Zimmer wouldn’t begin third-round pick Kellen Mond over a realized item like Sean Mannion during the 2021 season, O’Connell may not be enthusiastic about beginning Corridor when he has veteran choices accessible.
The Vikings’ interest in first-round quarterback draft prospects is heightened by the uncertainty surrounding the position’s future this season.
The most important decision for the team’s future will still be whether or not it re-signs Cousins this offseason. Dobbs’ middle of the season streak additionally opened the chance of moving with the previous Cardinals quarterback in an offense worked toward his assets next season.
The Vikings have already shown a strong interest in a first-round quarterback prospect, so both veterans could serve as bridge starters and mentors.
As per KSTP’s Darren Wolfson, Minnesota has proactively placed in a lot of early legwork on exploring center first-round quarterback possibilities like J.J. McCarthy and Jayden Daniels.
In the offseason, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will investigate all options, including free agency.
