Browns Star Myles Garrett Speaks Out After Getting Nullified by Rams
Browns star Myles Garrett talks after Rams shutout.
Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett failed to reach the box for the first time in his career on Sunday.
Garrett did not record a tackle or sack in the 36-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, it was the first time he had thrown a no-hitter in his career. Garrett entered the game with 13 sacks this season, half a sack behind the NFL lead. The most notable play of the day involving Garrett was when he masked Alaric Jackson and removed his helmet during a scrimmage with the Rams.
“It didn’t really shock me,” Garrett said. “We had a great game plan for us beforehand.”
The Rams worked hard to neutralize Garrett, which was evident in Los Angeles captain Sean McVay’s postgame comments about Garrett.
“Hello. I just want you to know that worrying about you has ruined my week, okay? McVay told Garrett, according to The Athletic.
I can’t believe my shoulder didn’t touch Garrett. He barely lifted his shoulder after last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos and spent a week rehabbing before he could take the field against the Rams.
The Browns’ overall defense struggled against the Rams, averaging 6.4 yards per game. Los Angeles had 399 total yards and didn’t force a single turnover.
Myles Garrett still feels good about his playoff hopes.
With the loss, the Browns fell to 7-5 and two games behind the AFC North team, the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland’s playoff chances are somewhat uncertain after back-to-back losses, but Garrett remains hopeful.
“I always feel good about this team,” Garrett said. “We know exactly what the mission is, and even though we’ve suffered losses here, that won’t change. We’ll go right back to the plans and get right to work.”
And Garrett didn’t use the wave of injuries hitting the Browns as an excuse. “Of course it’s difficult. No one has asked about our situation, but we’re in it,” Garrett said. “I can’t complain and I can’t cry. I have to go out and do my best and find a way to win. “Don’t apologize.” he answered.
The Browns have been without Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward for the past two weeks. He is dealing with a shoulder injury and is expected to return next week. The Browns have a solid QB in Joe Flacco.
The Browns’ offense looked more up-tempo compared to the Rams, where veteran QB Joe Flacco made his debut. He completed 23 of 44 passes for 254 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Flacco’s only miscue came in the fourth quarter when he threw an interception on a deep attempt.
“I was mad at myself,” Flacco said after the game. “I know I can play this game, so that’s not my mindset right now. My thought process was frustrating to me. Some of my favorite plays are: Coming into the 4th quarter, it’s not pretty and it’s tight. I think I’m good at tight games where I have to make good decisions. “So it hurts a little to not be able to endure this.”
The Browns must win against the Jacksonville Jaguars next week. The team has not yet announced who will be the starting quarterback for this game.
