NHL Rumors: William Nylander’s contract status with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne, Sam McKee discuss William Nylander’s contract status with the Toronto Maple Leafs , discussing whether he can leave as an unrestricted free agent.

Mackie: Well, what struck me about this film, and what struck me when I saw it in person, was the Lewis Gross aspect of it:Oh, blah blah blah.
Just when you think, “Maybe,” you reach that number.

But I feel like that’s probably not what they’re looking for.
And that’s not advice.
And for me, that part just kind of jumped out at me.
Maybe they just want to go UFA.
Bourne: “Well, if you.
.
.
” Mackie: “Maybe they want it like that.
.
.
” Bourne: “For example.
If they overpay you, you can sign, but other than that, a lot of Lewis Gross’ clients tend to call it a UFA, yeah.
” McKee: Brandon I felt like I saw guys like Saad, Krug, Dumoulin, Noel Acciari just there. I know they're not in the same class, but a lot of them left without signing with their old teams. To go. Kypreos: "But they've been down this road before. Obviously he wasn't a UFA, he was a restricted free agent, but he still took two months of the season. 2 Bourne:Yes.
” Kypreos: Well, you. . . '' Wait. Wait, what about them? Is that the direction the Chicago Blackhawks team is waiting for the Leafs to say,Do you want to do this because we’re here?
” Bourne: “Of course.
And you know, the scary part that’s mentioned again in this article is simply, if we lose Willie Nylander, let’s say you’re okay, we’re going to focus on cap space or trade him at the deadline.
Or else, I’ll do whatever it takes.
With Willie Kneeland on the roster, it’s Mitch Marner’s turn to negotiate.
You’re screwed because you can’t lose both.
All of a sudden, Mitch got to the point where he said we needed to keep one of our elite wingers, our game-breakers, our players with the most minutes, and that’s how things changed.
.
.
” Kipreso: “So choose one now and choose one later.
Bourne: “Yes.
” Kipreso: “Or are you trying to find a way to have both?
Bourne: “It’s up to you to decide.
You either choose one or you sign up for the extra 500 (1,000) that Willy wants.
Kypreos: “Can you see the world thinking of moving him in March, Bourne: ‘Willie?
Kypreos: “Yes, because I wouldn’t.
” Vaughn: “The only reason I would say yes is because Treliving has made it clear that he doesn’t want to do something like (Johnny) Gaudreau again.
Do nothing and the guy just walks away.
” Mackie: “By the way, it’s remarkable how similar the situations are.
Given that there are players who act the same way from one situation to another, there are really elite players, such as final year players.
But are they the same agent?
Bourne: “I think so.
Lewis Gross” Mackie: “Lewis Gross.
I mean, I can’t think of many things I want to celebrate Groundhog Day with, it’s like déjà vu here.
