Former Players Under Deion Sanders Expose His Weak Leadership at Colorado
Eoghan Kerry, a former player under Deion Sanders, discusses his weak leadership at Colorado on FOX Sports Radio. After Deion was dropped from the team, I went to shake his hand and said, “Thank you, Coach.” He replied, “Yeah, buddy, you got it,” and he pointed to the door. He wouldn’t look at me without flinching. There were a few instances prior to that [being cut from the Colorado football team] when I thought, “I don’t think he’s going to keep any of us,” players brought in by former Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell. The coaches had informed us that there would be cuts and decisions would be made regarding who would be allowed to remain on the team and who would not.
Prior to that exit meeting, I had four conversations with Deion that made me believe, “I don’t think he cares how hard we work, I think he’s just going to get rid of us.” The elevator leading up from the locker room was the location of all four of these interactions. These times, he (Deion Sanders) and I were the only two men in that elevator. The initial multiple times simply attempting to spread the word, let him know ‘hello, mentor, I regard you, I need to be here’, so I’d say ‘hello Mentor Prime, it’s great to see you’ and he was on his telephone composing. I couldn’t say whether it was a message or a tweet, he would simply gaze toward me and return to his telephone. I was completely ignored, not even a nod or acknowledgement that I was there.
The following time, I repeated myself: “Hey, Coach Prime, how are you doing? It’s great to see you’, and he gazed upward from his telephone and said ‘hello, amigo, press five’, so I squeezed the fifth floor and just shut up on the grounds that that was the fourth time I attempted to talk with him when we were distant from everyone else, not even before the cameras – – troublemaker act, I was simply attempting to converse with him one man to another and he wouldn’t recognize me. Taking into account he wouldn’t gesture toward me I thought ‘I don’t know the amount of an opportunity I need to remain here’, since like I said, we’ve been informed that they were making cuts. “He’s testing me, he wants to see if I’m going to quit, if I’m going to drop out because I think he doesn’t like me,” was my initial thought. I didn’t quit; I just continued working. I had that identical communication multiple times, assuming I planned to stop I would have quit saying ‘hey’ as far as he might be concerned, however he won’t break me and I battled till the end until he let me know I wasn’t permitted to battle any longer.
I’m still at Colorado because the contract I signed is for four years, so they can cut you from the team at any time. You stated to Jason Whitlock that while your scholarship was only for one year when you played, the current format requires you to sign for four years. Unless you murder someone, as you claimed, it’s four years of athletic aid. They didn’t tell us that they could remove you from the team but couldn’t cancel your full-ride academic aid. They just told us ‘you really want to leave, you don’t go here any longer.’ As a result, I and two others were aware that we could remain. We were cut on a Sunday, the entryway shut on a Friday, and it takes the school two days to place you in the gateway, and I wasn’t ready to go with a $200,000 choice in three days so I chose to remain and save my grant for now thus did those two different respectable men.
Yet, nobody in the group was informed we were permitted to keep our grant, so most folks blew a gasket and that is the manner by which you had 50 fellows enter the entrance around the same time… I’m certain you realize that the world was informed that I, alongside my 50 colleagues ‘quit the group’, which didn’t occur. Although my experience wasn’t great, I’m glad for the guys who will be able to play, and I won’t be able to support them this year. The couple of individuals that I determined what occurred among Deion and I, they would agree ‘Gracious, YOU’RE Simply MAKING THAT UP, HE Could NEVER DO THAT, HE’S A Godly man, HE’S A Decent MAN, HE’S A Pioneer, YOU’RE Mad In light of the fact that YOU WEREN’T Sufficient TO PLAY, SO YOU’RE MAKING THIS UP.’ I in all actuality do think there was some information about what had occurred and certain individuals simply couldn’t have cared less.” ( Full Section Above)
Kerry, a sophomore grant player who played as a green bean with the past system under ex-Colorado lead trainer Karl Dorrell, said Sanders was an unannounced flake-out the initial three weeks of booked group gatherings toward the start of spring football in spite of players recording into meeting rooms and sitting around idly for a truant Mentor Prime for very nearly an entire hour.
Kerry says that he had four associations with Sanders before he was cut from the program, saying Sanders altogether overlooked him while they were distant from everyone else in a lift multiple times of the multiple times. Kerry says he would attempt to welcome Sanders and Deion would simply turn upward from his telephone and afterward think down without gesturing or recognizing Kerry’s presence. After Kerry greeted Sanders once more during their fourth meeting, Coach Prime finally muttered his first and only line of dialogue, “hey, buddy, press 5,” before exiting the elevator.
Kerry said that when he was cut from the group, Deion caused an associate mentor to communicate everything when they were telling Kerry that he was being set free from the football program, and afterward said that Sanders didn’t look at him without flinching when he shook his hand, however rather highlighted the entryway for Kerry to leave his office.
Robertson, a sophomore stroll on, says Deion was almost disconnected to his players, expressing that Sanders’ office entryway was constantly shut with a red floor mat external that read ‘DON’T Step aerobics THIS MAT Except if YOUR SHOES ARE OFF, DON’T COME IN Except if Welcomed.’
Kerry stated that his mother considered Sanders’ refusal to meet with the parents of players during the week of the spring game to be a “red flag” that Sanders was the right coach for her son, something that the previous administration had prided itself on.
Kerry and Robertson discuss their negative experience with Sanders in the full segment above. Sanders went on to finish a 4-8 first season at Boulder, losing eight of their final nine games and finishing dead last in the Pac-12 standings.
