BIG REVELATION: Charlie Woods lets slip secrets behind dad Tiger Woods’
Charlie Woods Reveals the Secret Behind His Father’s Putting
After competing in the PNC Championship in South Florida for the third time as a father-son duo, 14-year-old Charlie Woods inadvertently reveals the secret behind his father’s putting.
I’ve let slip an important insight.
Tiger Woods and Charlie managed to finish tied for fifth in the tournament at 19 under, thanks in part to some difficulties in their short game on the first day.
When Golf.com asked about his father’s skill as a caddy, Charlie said Tiger’s reading is non-traditional.
“For my dad as a caddy, his reads are more hook-oriented and I don’t hook as much as my dad,” he said.
“That’s why I miss all my putts.
” Analysis of Putting Lab data (via Golf Digest) reveals that Tiger actually hit the ball to the right of his intended line.
But thanks to his strong right hand when putting, he again hits the face a little closed.
It’s not technically “perfect,” but it’s consistent and Tiger has practiced it enough that it becomes a second habit and works well.
The pair finished just 8 under on Saturday, but the work on the greens was to blame for their subpar performance. So, we hit the ball really well today, we didn't miss the fairway, and we still managed to hit 8 under,'' Charlie said, adding,
We just putt badly.
” ” he added.
He agreed, adding, “You get the point right,” following his son’s comments.
They teamed up on Sunday, shot 11 under that day, and finished the entire tournament at 19 under.
Bernhard Langer and his son Jason won by two strokes.
