J.J. Watt Reacts After T.J. Watt Suffers Knee Injury in Steelers-Ravens
The knee injury sustained by his younger brother, Pittsburgh Steelers standout pass rusher T.J. Watt, during the team’s 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night devastated legendary defensive end J.J. Watt.
“No sense of worse. Terrible,” J.J. Watt wrote on X.
Although the damage did not appear to be too serious, it did not look good at first. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Watt is thought to have sustained a Grade 3 MCL sprain, which would probably need many weeks of recovery if Pittsburgh advances to the postseason.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Watt was lobbying to return to the game, but Pittsburgh’s staff wouldn’t let him, which makes sense given the inclement weather and poor field conditions.
After collecting his 19th sack of the season on Saturday night, Watt is the clear favorite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year title. Watt became the first player in NFL history to record multiple seasons with 19 or more sacks in a career, together with his elder brother J.J.
Pittsburgh, which had a 10–7 regular season record, still requires assistance to guarantee a postseason berth. The Steelers may secure a spot in the postseason field in three possible scenarios following their victory over Baltimore: a tie between the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans; a Miami Dolphins victory over the Buffalo Bills; or a Jacksonville Jaguars loss to the Tennessee Titans.
