BREAKING: FSU Football receives more good news

The Seminoles land their third transfer portal commitment of the weekend.

Florida State hosted a handful of experienced and talented transfers in Tallahassee over the weekend with the program looking to add depth to its roster. The returns were fruitful as the Seminoles added another quality defensive lineman to the trenches.

Grady Kelly, a defensive tackle transfer from Colorado State, declared his commitment to Florida State on Sunday afternoon following his visit.

“Yes, I did commit. Kelly declared, “Yes, sir, I’m a ‘Nole,” as he concluded his journey.

This is significant for the Seminoles as Fabien Lovett (graduation), Braden Fiske (graduation), Malcolm Ray (transfer), and Ayobami Tifase (transfer) all left the squad for different reasons, meaning the club needed to add at least one interior defensive lineman to the roster. Kelly, who has two more seasons of eligibility, will have the chance to go directly into the starting lineup when he enters Florida State.

Kelly started his career at Colorado State. He finished the season with 35 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks for the Rams while starting all 12 games and using 536 plays. Kelly was the first rookie defensive lineman from Colorado State to be named an All-American since 2011. That was a year ago. With 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, and two pass deflections, he tied for seventh place on the squad. College Football News recognized him as a Freshman All-American as a consequence of his achievements.

Though he is a Colorado native, Kelly spent his prep career in the state of Florida at Navarre High School. He was a three-star recruit in the 2021 class and finished his time at the prep level with 133 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, and a school-record 26 sacks. He also competed in weightlifting, basketball, and track.

The 6-foot-3, 293-pound defensive tackle is regarded as the No. 385 overall prospect and the No. 36 defensive lineman, giving him a three-star distinction, according to 247Sports.

Florida State adds Kelly to a room that includes redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Darrell Jackson, redshirt sophomore Daniel Lyons, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman Jamorie Flagg, and true freshman D’Nas White. Redshirt senior Dennis Briggs is in the process of acquiring a waiver for a seventh season of eligibility.

Kelly is the fifth transfer to join the Seminoles since December. The program has also added former Georgia defensive end Marvin Jones Jr, former Oregon State/Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, former LSU wide receiver Jalen Brown, and former Alabama cornerback Earl Little Jr. over the last few weeks.
