Steelers revenge Jaguars Over Terrible Towel Disrespect After Jacksonville Misses Playoffs
The disrespect shown to their infamous Terrible Towels by the Jacksonville Jaguars was not forgotten by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback for the Jaguars, offended Pittsburgh supporters in October of last year when he called them “little yellow towels” before to their Week 8 game. Then, that week, in Jacksonville’s victory over Pittsburgh, safety Andrew Wingard of the Jaguars clinched the win with an interception before partying with a Terrible Towel.
In Week 18, the Jaguars’ Sunday defeat to the Tennessee Titans allowed the Steelers to advance to the postseason. Jacksonville was also eliminated from the playoffs by that.
The Jaguars’ prior disrespect from this season was subsequently ridiculed by the Steelers’ account on X, which was once Twitter.
Pittsburgh’s account commented, “When will yinz learn,” alluding to the myth known as the Terrible Towel curse, which holds that anybody who shows disdain for the Terrible Towels would ultimately pay a price for their transgressions.
The Jaguars’ luck definitely seemed to take a turn for the worst when they poked the bear; they lost six of their last nine games to miss the playoffs, which may have been due to a curse or their own misfortune.
