Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin walked out of his postgame press conference after a reporter pointed out he only has a year left on his contract following his team’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Tomlin’s job security has been a topic of discussion for most of this season, but was thought to have been pushed to the fall with the Steelers finishing the season with 10 wins and a playoff berth. That wasn’t the case.

The press conference appeared to be near its conclusion, with someone from the NFL or Steelers communications staff asking if there were any more questions.

After a few moments, a question from the press corps started ‘Mike, you have a year left on your contract.’

Tomlin started walking out of the press conference before the word ‘contract’ had finished being uttered.

Tomlin is now the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach after Bill Belichick parted ways with the New England Patriots last week.

The Steelers haven’t had a losing season in the 17 years with Tomlin at the helm, but have only won one Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh also hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016, its longest streak over 50 years.

The lack of championships and recent postseason success have led some to want Tomlin out.

Tomlin is a pillar among minority coaches in the NFL, as the second-longest tenured minority head coach is the Jets’ Robert Saleh, who just finished his third season in New York.

Tomlin is the longest-tenured minority head coach in the league’s history.

Now, only time will tell if Tomlin’s job security was more fragile than believed.
