Georgia football lands tight end from transfer portal

Georgia football landed its most recent California tight end since Brock Bowers, but this time it’s from the transfer portal.

Former Stanford tight end Benjamin Yurosek announced his transfer to the Bulldogs on Feb. 9. ESPN Senior Writer Pete Thamel made the announcement on Instagram.

Yurosek, according to 247Sports, was rated as the sixth-best tight end and the 101st-best prospect in the transfer portal. Yurosek spent four seasons with the Cardinals and found the most amount of success in his second and third years with the team.

Yurosek was named All-Pac-12 second-team tight end by the AP after his junior campaign and received All-Pac-12 first-team honors after his sophomore season. Yurosek also won the Deswarte-Eller Award and Frank Rehm Award, which are given to the top Stanford sophomore and top “big game performances,” respectively.

Yurosek battled an upper-body injury this past season, which caused him to miss most of the year, as he only caught 16 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown. His best statistical season was in 2021, where he caught 43 catches and led the team with 658 yards and three touchdowns.

Yurosek finished his Stanford tenure with 1,342 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He also ended with 114 rushing yards during his time with the Cardinals.

Yurosek is primarily known for his pass-catching ability rather than his blocking. However, with the departure of Bowers, Yurosek could prove to be a beneficial piece for the team. Yurosek will team up with returnees Oscar Delp, Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin, likely competing for reps with Delp and Luckie.

Yurosek will only play one season with the Bulldogs, only having one final year of eligibility remaining, but could see his NFL Draft stock reach high levels like several Georgia tight ends before him — an aspect Yurosek clearly values.
