Blue-Chip Defensive Back Includes FSU Football In Top Ten List
The Seminoles are in the running for a lengthy and athletic defensive back.
Florida State is beginning to make traction on building out its 2025 class. The Seminoles only hold four commitments through the first two months of the new year but are putting themselves in a position to go on a run when the spring and summer arrive.
On Tuesday afternoon, four-star defensive back Gregory Xavier Thomas announced his top 10 schools before making a decision. Florida State was on the list along with Miami, LSU, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Colorado, Wisconsin and West Virginia. The Seminoles have been pursuing Thomas since last summer, after he received an offer during the Seminoles’ exhibition game in July. He quickly became one of FSU’s top defensive targets, as he will likely move to safety at the next level. The Florida native visited Tallahassee twice during the season to watch a Seminoles game at Doak Campbell Stadium. He was also present for wins over Duke and Miami. Thomas was recently back in town for Kids Day and was able to meet with head coach Mike Norvell, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr.
Thomas plays at American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale. This is the same program Surtain Sr. coached before joining the Miami Dolphins and eventually Florida State University. There’s a lot to like about Thomas’ game, as he’s a hard-hitting player who can always put himself in position for an interception or pass breakup. He is tall, athletic, and knows how to catch the ball out of the air. In addition to football, Thomas also ran track and field, running a time of 11.56 seconds in the 100-yard dash as a sophomore.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard is ranked as the No. 111 overall pick, No. 13 cornerback and No. 16 recruit in Florida’s 2025 class, according to 247Sports.
