Scottie Scheffler was greeted with cheers from patrons when he arrived back at the PGA Championship after his arrest.

Scottie Scheffler has released a statement on social media after he was arrested and subsequently released just hours before the start of the PGA Championship second round.

The second round of the PGA Championship was delayed after a tragic accident in the early hours of the morning where a man was killed after being struck by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club.

The incident led to traffic delays with players attempting to get into the course in plenty of time to prepare for the second round.

Local reports claim Scheffler tried to drive around the crash scene before he was stopped by police and eventually placed into handcuffs.

The reigning Masters champion was placed in the back of a police car before his mugshot was released to the world.

He faced charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

The 27-year-old was eventually released at 8.40am local time where he was able to make his return to Valhalla.

Scheffler appeared in high spirits as he stepped out of his car into the clubhouse with around one hour until his scheduled tee time.

It was a quick turnaround for Scheffler as he tried to get in some time on the range and he was greeted with cheers from the few patrons who were able to get in before the start of the second round.
