The NFL community responds to Patrick Mahomes’ announcement.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback came up limping this past Sunday, but he didn’t seem overly bothered by whatever injury he picked up in the team’s 41-10 victory over the Chicago Bears.
While it was Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift who stole the show at Arrowhead during Sunday’s game, Mahomes completed 24-of-33 passes (72.7 percent) for 273 yards with three touchdowns.
That was with him exiting Sunday’s contest early and the Chiefs scoring two touchdowns on the ground.
Mahomes did tweak his ankle but participated fully in practice on Wednesday, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
It is unknown if Mahomes’ injured ankle from last year’s playoff run is the same one, but it should be noted that the reigning MVP did win a Super Bowl despite having a bad ankle.
All in all, he should be fine.
And after Blaine Gabbert threw two interceptions on 3-of-5 passing in relief of Mahomes on Sunday, the Chiefs don’t exactly have a great contingency plan at the quarterback position.
As bad as Zach Wilson is, starting Gabbert against the vaunted New York Jets defense would certainly be a choice.
But not to worry, as Mahomes seems like he’ll be a full go without any limitations for Sunday night’s showdown at MetLife Stadium.
