BEREA, Ohio — The right shoulder injury to Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson still bothers him.
Watson did not work out on Monday, and it is still unknown if he will play against the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Watson, who unintentionally missed the Oct.
31 game, practiced with his teammates as they got back from their bye week.
In order to continue recovery from an injury the Browns have downplayed, the player missed the team’s game against Baltimore and remained inside the facility.
On a running play against Tennessee two weeks ago, Watson injured his shoulder.
The Ravens took advantage of his absence and brutalized rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson in his NFL debut after he was restricted in practice the following week and chose to sit out Cleveland’s 28-3 loss at home to them.
Watson’s injury is still unknown, and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski would not say whether Watson would play against the 49ers (5-0).
It’s been said before, but Stefanski advised “really just treating it day by day.”.
“He is working nonstop with rehab and is doing everything in his power.
So, in terms of his rehab process, he is only following instructions.
“.
On a planned running play in Cleveland’s 27-3 victory, the 28-year-old Watson took a significant hit from Titans safety Amani Hooker, but it is not thought that he suffered any structural damage to his shoulder.
Since signing a $230 million contract with the Browns, Watson has made nine starts and had his best performance (27 of 33, 289 yards passing, 2 TDs) in that time.
Prior to the Baltimore game, Watson’s participation in practice was restricted and he was rated as questionable. The Browns were counting on him to play, but when he arrived at the stadium on game day, Watson was unable to throw with any velocity during a pre-kickoff on-field workout.
Despite being cleared medically, the decision was made for him to sit out.
Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick out of UCLA, started for Watson and appeared outmatched while tossing three interceptions and being sacked four times.
Watson’s shoulder is structurally sound, according to multiple statements made by the Browns.
Then Stefanski was questioned as to why he wasn’t prepared to play if that were the case.
It’s important to distinguish between being medically cleared and being able to perform your job effectively, according to Stefanski.
“That’s what with all of our guys, when you’re working through an injury, you need to be able to perform functionally, and that’s what Deshaun’s working really hard in his rehab — to be able to get back to 100 percent.
“.
Stefanski refused to comment on whether Thompson-Robinson or seasoned P.
J.
If Watson is unable to play, Walker will get the start against the 49ers.
Stefanski stated, “We’re not moving toward Sunday just yet.
However, DTR is a young player who is improving, as we previously discussed.
