Bruins disband the Century Team.

The Bruins held their Centennial Gala this evening, continuing their 100th season celebrations, fresh off of their season-opening victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 20 “most legendary” skaters in the history of the Bruins franchise were named to the All-Centennial Team, which concluded the Gala.

The list is as follows.

Patrice Bergeron, Johnny Bucyk, Wayne Cashman, Bill Cowley, Phil Esposito, David Krejci, Brad Marchand, Rick Middleton, Cam Neely, Terry O’Reilly, David Pastrnak, and Milt Schmidt.

Ray Bourque, Zeno Chara, Dit Clapper, Bobby Orr, Brad Park, and Eddie Shore.

Frank Brimsek and Gerry Cheevers.

As you can see, Bergeron and Krejci, who recently announced their retirements, are right behind Marchand and Pastrnak as the only two active players named to the team.

The only real surprise—and it’s hard to call it a surprise—is that Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask didn’t make the cut.

Given their professional accomplishments, it is easy to understand why Brimsek and Cheevers were chosen, but given recency bias, I figured one of Thomas or Rask would have made the cut.

Whatever the case, it’s a lengthy list that includes both past and present Hall of Famers.

This list of 20 skaters was culled from the 100-person list that was previously made public, as you may recall.

A creative rendering of the group shows Marchand in the foreground grinning.
