Coach Prime not ‘completely off the hook’ for Colorado’s questionable play-calling

Despite offensive coordinator Sean Lewis being the main offender, Ryland Scholes of The Ralphie Report believes that Coach Prime cannot be excused for the numerous instances of questionable Colorado football play-calling, most notably against Stanford in the second half of the season’s most devastating defeat and on the final clock-eating drive of the Buffs’ nearly comeback against USC.

“Coach Prime truthfully isn’t the one to blame for the Buffs questionable play-calling decisions though, as he isn’t the one calling them,” Scholes said before adding, “Offensive coordinator Sean Lewis is the one calling plays on the Colorado sideline, not Deion.
Coach Prime should take the brunt of the blame for the Buffs’ poor play calling, but Lewis is the real architect of the offense.
Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback, admitted that Colorado ran the ball excessively against USC and blamed it on the fact that he kept looking up run plays after observing the defensive alignment.

Coach Prime isn’t at fault for the play-calling, but I don’t think he’s completely blameless either.
On Colorado’s sideline, Deion is the boss.
He should intervene to fix any issues if something is being handled improperly. Shedeur and Lewis were using up too much game time, and Coach Prime ought to have told them to change their strategy after noticing this.
“.

For Colorado’s football defense’s shortcomings, Coach Prime must accept responsibility.

Although Coach Prime can’t be held directly responsible for the play-calling in Boulder, the Buffs’ defense can.
It’s not that his plans aren’t sound, though.

No, it’s because the trenches are understaffed, despite the secondary being stacked with blue-chip recruits, and the motivation isn’t where it needs to be, which is why they were dominated in the second half of a game they were comfortably leading against the Cardinal.

Nothing is resolved by dismissing Charles Kelly. Deion Sanders’ approach to leading his team needs to change, and if/when that doesn’t, the personnel will probably change, just as it did prior to Coach Prime’s first Colorado campaign.
