Colts react to controversial penalties vs. Browns

The team led 38-33 heading into the final minutes of the fourth quarter when the Cleveland Browns were down three and out in Colts territory.
Colts linebacker E.J. Speed sacked Browns quarterback PJ Walker.
Walker fumbled and the ball was defended by Colts DeForest Buckner.
That play would have effectively ended the game.

But the officials threw a flag on the play and called Colts cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. An illegal contact penalty gave the Browns a first down.
Andrew Chernoff of News 8 Sports asked Baker Jr. I got a specific punishment in the locker room after the game.

“I saw ( wide receiver Amari Cooper ) on the street,” Baker Jr. said.
He holds out his hand and I hold it out.
Because he won’t let me push and catch the ball.
As long as I’m hitting the ball it’s within the rules and it should always be fair, but you can’t do anything good if you make such bad decisions. What else should I do?

On the next play, Baker was called for pass interference, which some fans thought was impossible to catch. The penalty moved the Browns to the Indianapolis 1-yard line.

“We’ll have to go back and take a look,” Colts coach Shane Steichen said.
“He said there’s an illegal connection there.
I have to go to him.
I’ve never seen him on our side.”

The Browns scored the game-winning touchdown a few plays later on a 1-yard catch from Kareem Hunt.

That score was the difference as the Browns (4-2) beat the Colts (3-4) by a final score of 39-38.
“We didn’t see much first contact (on the penalty kick),” Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II said.
“Especially in the second half of the game, they have to allow us to make plays.
In these situations, we have to make sure we can play.
But I told DJ (Darrell Baker Jr.) that after the game.
That’s why we subscribe.
“If we’re going to put the game in the hands of the guys running the game, we can’t expect them to make the right decision every time.”

Indianapolis hopes to snap its current two-game losing streak next Sunday when it hosts the New Orleans Saints (3-4) at 1 p.m.
