Bernie Ecclestone gives verdict on Felipe Massa: ‘Hamilton could have sued after Abu Dhabi’
Hamilton could’ve filed a lawsuit following Abu Dhabi, according to Bernie Ecclestone about Felipe Massa.
According to former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, Felipe Massa is only filing a lawsuit to get paid, and Lewis Hamilton could have done something similar.
When his team sent preservation notices to several teams and staff members yesterday, Brazilian Massa stepped up his legal efforts.
These notices instructed them not to change or destroy any documents that were relevant to his case.
However, the person who allegedly started the whole thing has asserted that Massa is not motivated by sporting merit and is only interested in padding his own bank account.
‘Only in it for the money,’ according to Bernie Ecclestone of the Felipe Massa clan.
Ecclestone opened up a metaphorical can of worms when he admitted earlier this year that a widely held account of what happened after “Crashgate” in 2008 was untrue.
It was believed that F1 and the FIA were unaware the crash was intentional until Nelson Piquet Jnr left the team the following year, after which Fernando Alonso won in Singapore and Massa’s chances of winning the championship suffered.
Due to the FIA’s long-standing policy that the season is officially over after the award ceremony at the end of the year, they were unable to retract or change any results, so Hamilton was declared the World Champion.
Contrary to the previously accepted version of events, Ecclestone revealed earlier this year that he and the then-FIA chief Max Mosley were aware of Renault’s manipulation of the Singapore race before the end of 2008.
Shortly after, Massa stated his intention to file a lawsuit, and despite Ecclestone’s later denial of making the remarks and claim that he cannot recall doing so, the former Ferrari driver is continuing his efforts.
Bernardo Viana, Massa’s attorney, was quoted as saying they “want to bring home the trophy,” but Ecclestone has hinted at a hidden agenda.
