Liam Lawson’s F1 future is hinted at by Christian Horner as Williams keep an eye on the Red Bull star.

Despite Lawson’s strong start in Formula One, Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo appear to have a better chance of winning a 2024 AlphaTauri seat, and Williams may give Lawson a second chance.

Liam Lawson may not begin his full-time Formula 1 career next year, but Christian Horner is confident in his future.

As he continues to stand in for the injured Daniel Ricciardo, the 21-year-old will compete in his fourth Grand Prix. And he’s done a good job so far, impressing in his first two AlphaTauri appearances before making a real name for himself in Singapore.

However, it doesn’t seem likely to be enough to secure a full-time drive with the team in 2024.
Yuki Tsunoda’s new contract is about to be announced, and it might do so at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

It is uncertain if that announcement will also contain information about Ricciardo’s new contract.
However, it’s anticipated that the Australian will also be kept, which will reduce Lawson’s role to that of a reserve for 2024.

Red Bull team principal Horner gave his assessment of the situation and was all praise for Lawson, saying that he had forced the team to make a difficult choice. But he also made a suggestion that the New Zealander might have to wait before securing a full-time position on the grid.

Williams might still give Lawson a shot at competing in 2024 even if he doesn’t land an AlphaTauri seat. James Vowles, the team owner, wants to give Logan Sargeant more time to prove himself, but should he decide to make a change, Lawson might be a candidate to compete alongside Alex Albon in the upcoming season.

The New Zealander, according to him, “has been impressive in his few races.
Back in F2, Logan and him were obviously teammates, and they almost exactly tied for first place in the championship.
Consequently, we can compare the two of them side by side in that setting.
There are currently different cars and situations, which we do not have.

The key is understanding how an AlphaTauri and a Williams actually compare at this point.
Nevertheless, he did a good job of maintaining his composure in Singapore.
It will be interesting to see how many drivers Red Bull fields with just two seats.
