This season, an unfamiliar area will be under the spotlight in the world of college football.
Colorado Buffaloes play at Boulder Coliseum in Colorado.
“Coach Prime” Deion Sanders is their leader.
Additionally, he and his team bring not only talent and cachet, but also high expectations.
In their prior season, the Buffaloes had a disastrous 1-11 record.
Sanders is their coach, and they currently have a 3-2 record.
He also gives his team a sense of confidence, which makes them a target.
Numerous teams eagerly anticipated the Buffaloes receiving their first loss.

Even I, a casual observer of college football, anticipated this vibe on campuses.
But what we should all take away from this first defeat is that it doesn’t define their season.
We don’t define seasons in our lives by the losses we endure.
Coach Prime, you see, brings a winning mentality to Colorado.
I’m aware that he holds his students to a high standard.
That gives the players under his instruction something to aim for. He wants these boys to hold themselves to higher standards.
Learning to perform in less-than-ideal conditions is a component of that experience.

It’s plausible to imagine that these students might feel defeated after such a humiliating defeat.
Every week, they have games that are broadcast nationwide. Sanders is preparing these men to perform under the spotlight and in front of a global audience, though. I don’t know how they will perform this weekend, but I highly doubt they will take the same beating they did recently.

They will certainly take a very different approach and pay much closer attention to detail, I’m sure of it.
We are watching a college program develop before our very eyes.
It serves as both a process and an excellent reminder for ourselves. We can be kind to ourselves while still expecting more from ourselves.
I don’t believe those things have to be incompatible.
Understanding is the source of your grace, and a greater awareness of the present will lead to greater progress.

Let’s be realistic about our expectations as we follow the Buffaloes throughout this season.
But let’s enjoy the journey itself.
Let’s be smitten by their development.
Let’s enjoy once more watching “Prime Time” in action.
