Braves Upcoming Decisions, Free Agents, Options, and 40-Man – Braves Journal
With just over a week left in the season, the Braves have an immediate decision to make. Players without contracts through the 2024 season become free agents the day after the World Series ends. However, in 2023, there will be a five-day grace period before other teams can negotiate with free agents who are not part of those teams. During these five days, teams must decide on club, player and/or mutual options.
The next time the Braves hit free agency or have an option is 2023.
If the Warriors pick up Eddie Rosario’s club option, it would be worth talking to Kevin Piller about a return.
But I’m not sure if Heroes wants to keep Pillar or if they go the LFer route every day, Pilar wants to stay with Pillar.
Rosario is very strict. He had his best defensive season with the Braves, compiling 3 OAA (Statcast’s defensive metric and my most trusted metric). However, there was also a significant portion of AB that was not competitive.
However, that option is worth $9 million and would be hard to give up at this point unless the team has concrete plans to upgrade LF.
The problem is, if the Braves take Eddie, Pilar would make sense.
If the team gets a LFer every day, Pillar will have to look elsewhere for work.
Jimenez had a good year for the team, but it wasn’t the relief AA thought it would be when they traded Justin-Henry Malloy for him (Malloy had an .891 OPS, a 21 BB percentage .2% and a K of 15.2% -10).recorded).
I had 23 dingers in AAA. He also played multiple positions..
.OOPS).
I think AA will let Jimenez walk.
There…
If Uncle Jesse or Uncle Charlie wants to come back, they will come back.
Ehire Adrianza will continue to sign a new MiLB contract with the team.
They clearly value him in the organization.
Pierce Johnson is an interesting solution. He was the Braves’ best reliever with 6.4 K/BB. I think AA will try to re-sign him to a two year deal with a third year option of course.
I can’t imagine the Braves bringing back McHugh after the poor results and injuries.
I expect Kirby Yates to be on this team in 2024.
The mutual option rarely works, so I expect Hand to get some release documentation.
Add minus 40 braves
If all of the above happens after the World Series, the Braves will have to decide which nine players will remain in IL for 60 days.
They are Colby Allard, Yonny Chirinos, Nick Anderson, Dylan Lee, Tyler Matzek, Michael Soroka, Kyle Wright, Huascar Inoa and Sam Hilliard.
My assumption is this:
Released (or traded): Colby Allard, Yonny Chirinos, Nick Anderson, Michael Soroka and Sam Hilliard.
Subs: Dylan Lee, Tyler Matzek, Kyle Wright, Huascar Inoa
Barring the five option decisions listed above and the potential release of players like Jackson Stevens, Allan Winans and Andrew Velasquez, the Braves will have room to fill out their roster and are set for a Hot Stove season.
