After Mercedes questions surface, Karun Chandhok is confident in George Russell’s F1 future.

Former racer and Sky Sports F1 analyst Chandhok backed Russell to recover from his Singapore crash and predicted a bright future for the Brit in an interview with Mirror Sport.

When given a car capable of competing for that title, Karun Chandhok has “no doubt” that George Russell will regularly compete for the Formula 1 championship.

The 25-year-old is in his second season with Mercedes and managed to defeat Lewis Hamilton in their first year of working together despite having a subpar car.
But so far in this campaign, the seven-time world champion has the upper hand in that intra-team conflict.

And Russell took a hit in Singapore last weekend when he blew a podium opportunity on the final lap.
While running third, he made a small error, misjudging his entry into a corner, clipping the barrier on the inside, and crashed at the other side of the track while trying to overtake Lando Norris.

In an interview conducted by OLBG and conducted by Mirror Sport, Chandhok said, “It was a real shame for him.”.
However, the Sky Sports analyst was all praise for Mercedes for their race strategy, which included a courageous choice to pit for new tires toward the end in the hopes that Russell and Hamilton could catch and pass the leaders.

Even though it didn’t, Chandhok claimed he thought it made for a much more exciting Grand Prix finish. I appreciate that they rolled the dice, he said. They observed that there was a mini-phase in the race during which they were in rear of Carlos [Sainz, the leader], but he wasn’t quite quick enough to pass.

It was encouraging to see how they seized the chance to innovate when the VSC was released. I like that Mercedes took a chance and tried to take the lead because it would have been simple to keep doing what they were doing and come in second.
[The Mercedes gamble] set us up; I can’t recall the last time we had four drivers battling for the victory at the finish line.

“George performed admirably for the majority of that weekend, including an incredible qualifying lap to secure a spot on the front row and a thrilling race.
What a shame.
Since he is a perfectionist, George, whom I’ve known for a very long time, will suffer from that. He has very high expectations for himself and sets a high bar for success.
He will recover because he is a great driver.

Russell received some criticism following the crash. Timo Glock, a former Formula One driver, was one of those who claimed that Russell’s apparent inability to maintain composure under pressure may be a sign that the British driver isn’t ready to compete for regular victories if given the chance.
Glock also accused Russell of “carelessness.”.

Chandhok, however, is still convinced that Russell will be right up there with the best of them if given a car that is sufficiently competitive.
“Everyone needs to keep getting better,” he continued.
“Max [Verstappen], Lewis, and even Fernando [Alonso], at his age, are all getting better.
The greatest performers always remain open to growing as people, drivers, and athletes.

“The truth is that George would be a title contender if he had a car that allowed him to compete for the world championship.
He is without a doubt talented and quick enough to consistently contend for the championship if given the right vehicle.
