Koepka responds to DeChambeau’s remarks about the Ryder Cup, a fellow LIV Golf rebel.
Only Brooks Koepka was chosen from the LIV Golf rebels for the Ryder Cup, according to Team USA captain Zach Johnson’s statement made last month.
To his fellow LIV Golf rebels who weren’t selected for the 2023 Ryder Cup, Brooks Koepka has sent a harsh message.
Koepka, who finished seventh in the team standings, wasn’t penalized for his decision to play on the PGA Tour because Zach Johnson, the captain of the USA team, used one of his six picks on the defending champion.
Some people, however, weren’t as fortunate; Bryson DeChambeau claimed he felt ignored by Johnson and expressed his feelings.
DeChambeau said this past weekend after a LIV victory in Chicago, “If you look at it, it would have been nice to at least just have a call.”.
I believe that Zach ought to have called out a lot of people here, but we didn’t. I recognize.
Although I understand, we are not unique.
We’re still in a race.
We’re still putting in a ton of effort to be the best we can be.
“.
Regarding Koepka’s inclusion, DeChambeau continued, “Brooks is obviously going to kill it for Team USA and excited for the team, but it does sting a little bit.
Whatever you may think, the fact remains that we are golfers, and I certainly could have helped Team USA by racking up some points.
“.
However, Koepka’s response to LIV’s missing Ryder Cup players was direct and brutal.
At Marco Simone, Rome, Koepka urged his audience to “play better.”.
“That’s always the response.
“.
The decision-making is not mine, he continued.
Anyone could have traveled there.
I was given the same chance to participate in LIV as every other player, and here I am.
“.
Dustin Johnson feels unfairly treated, much like DeChambeau.
Johnson admits that his recent performances haven’t been great, but he claims that if he had been playing on the GTA Tour, he would be in Rome supporting Team USA.
LIV Golf rebels would be difficult to choose for the Ryder Cup, as team captain Zach Johnson has already acknowledged.
He cited the fact that he does not get to see them play as frequently as a justification.
Zach Johnson said, “I adore DJ [Dustin Johnson].
He is a close friend.
Undoubtedly a star when it comes to competition play.
His track record speaks for itself, end to end.
It was one of those circumstances where it was difficult to maintain composure.
“When players aren’t up against the players who specifically earned their spots on the team, it’s difficult to gauge how they are doing.
In my opinion, Brooks Koepka’s performance gave everyone who does not compete on the PGA Tour the chance to earn their way onto the tour or at the very least to be fully discussed.
“.
