On the eve of the Ryder Cup, Europe’s captain Luke Donald addresses the Rory McIlroy stag do “issue.”.
After learning that the Northern Irishman was scheduled to participate in a stag party a week prior to the competition, Luke Donald, the captain of Europe’s Ryder Cup team, spoke with Rory McIlroy.
One week before the 2018 Ryder Cup, Rory McIlroy is getting ready to go on a stag weekend.
Luke Donald has reminded him that he is “not 21 or 22 any more.”.
The European team, led by Thomas Bjorn in 2018, won the Ryder Cup in France.
McIlroy, 34, is one of the young European players hoping to help the continent win the competition again.
Henrik Stenson lost out on the leadership position due to the Swedish player’s involvement in LIV Golf, so Englishman Donald has taken over for this year’s competition in Italy.
McIlroy has a friend’s stag party in Mykonos the week before the match at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, so he must fly there. Donald has acknowledged that they have discussed the plans, though he is not overly concerned.
According to Donald, the problem did arise.
“Rory is aware that his age is no longer 21 or 22.
There is nothing wrong with having a good time with your friends, but I believe he has the maturity to understand that he won’t lose his mind, so there is no cause for concern. McIlroy himself, however, emphasized that he is not traveling directly from the Greek Island to the Italian Capital.
Hey, I can be reasonable when I need to, McIlroy said.
“It’s only a 48-hour trip, a nice little trip, and probably also necessary.
“As a result, I travel from here (his home in Florida) to Rome to train for Wentworth [for the BMW PGA Championship].
I arrive back in London from Mykonos on a Wednesday evening, giving me four productive days to get ready for Rome.
“.
Early in August, McIlroy became the first player to secure a spot on Donald’s team through the European points list. Jon Rahm quickly followed suit, and six captain’s choices from Donald were later joined by four more automatic qualifiers.
The event will take place this year on September 29 and last the customary four days.
Despite being in obvious pain after a muscle spasm at the Tour Championship at the end of August, McIlroy has also dismissed worries about an injury.
It’s all right, he said.
“I’d say it’s between 90% and 95%.
Not entirely better, though.
It just needs a little bit of maintenance, but it doesn’t keep me from doing anything else. Just a little mindfulness, I suppose.
“When I returned from the Tour Championship, I began to perform some rehab exercises and had a few visits with the physiotherapist.
We spent a few days in London before coming here, and on Saturday before we left, I hit a ball once.
I did a little practicing on Tuesday, but I really just needed to rest and focus on that.
