Despite being a surprise omission from Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team, Adrian Meronk recovered at this week’s BMW PGA Championship.

After a strong start at the BMW PGA Championship, Adrian Meronk has given Luke Donald a taste of what he will be missing at this month’s Ryder Cup.

Meronk was unexpectedly left off of the European Ryder Cup team after Donald passed on him in his captain’s picks.
The Englishman instead decided to round out his squad with Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Ludvig Aberg.

This obviously came at the expense of the powerful Pole, but after displaying his best play during the first two rounds at Wentworth, it is clear that he is not wallowing in his Ryder Cup snub.
After a second round that was hampered by bad weather on Friday, Meronk is one shot behind the leaders on nine-under par, demonstrating that he has used his disappointment as motivation.

The winner of the Italian Open began his BMW PGA Championship on Thursday with a commanding five-under 67 that featured eight birdies.

He then quickly followed this up 24 hours later by shooting a four-under 68, which put him in good position going into the weekend.
After competing at last week’s Irish Open days after the team was announced, Meronk is making his second DP World Tour appearance since Donald made the difficult choice to leave him off the Ryder Cup squad.

Speaking at the K Club, the 30-year-old acknowledged that missing out on a first-team appearance had left him “shocked and angry.”.
To be completely honest, it’s been a very emotional time for me.
I’ve experienced shock, sadness, and anger, and now I’m trying to use that as inspiration for this week.

“Obviously, it’s a tough one to accept; I thought I’d done enough to be on that team.
They told me they would call me regardless, so I was expecting a call, and to be honest, I was in a pretty good mood. I had a nice finish and was shocked as I rode the train back to the United States from Switzerland.

The Ryder Cup spot for Adrian Meronk was lost.

“I heard from him [Luke Donald] that it was difficult for him as well, but to be completely honest, I kind of stopped listening when he said I’m not going. He was stating that someone needed to stay at home because it was urgent and such.
Although it was a big shock, I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes.

Meronk has disclosed that, after a week, he has come to terms with Donald’s choice.
At Wentworth, he declared, “I have accepted it.
The following days were difficult, but I’ve recovered and am now concentrating on my game.
Right now, my only objective is to finish the season strongly.

The European captain was, in his opinion, the “wrong” choice, he does admit.
“I know it is wrong,” he continued. I believe I merited it.
I believe I’ve demonstrated in the past two years that I play really well on the DP World Tour.

However, throughout my career, I have done a good job of accepting things.
