At the BMW PGA Championship, Rory McIlroy survived a chaotic last hole to make the cut.

After an 80-minute delay caused by fog, the second day came to a comical conclusion with four groups waiting on the 18th tee and Thomas Bjorn arguing with a drunken spectator.

Mcllroy made a two-putt as the light faded to maintain the chance that every member of the European Ryder Cup team would make the cut.

It’s a little bit of a mad dash, he said.

I don’t recall ever seeing that many players on 17 and 18, but the fog undoubtedly caused delays.
The Northern Irishman McIlroy, 34, who shot a one-under-par 71 on Friday, continued, “It’s not like they teed us off in tighter slots or anything.

“It’s challenging for me to play the last hole well and make the cut; it’s a bit of a race to the end.
Apart from having fewer players on the field, I’m not sure what you could do about that.

McIlroy, a four-time Major champion, won’t learn if he made the cut until Saturday morning, when the second round will resume.

Robert MacIntyre of Scotland revealed earlier that he received heckling from a spectator who claimed to have placed a wager against him.

MacIntyre shot a 69 to make the cut while playing with Ryder Cup teammates Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Ryder Cup rookie Ludvig Aberg shared the lead at Wentworth with fellow Swede Sebastian Soderberg at 10 under par to take the top spot on the leaderboard.

Aberg, one of captain Luke Donald’s six choices for the 2023 competition, recovered from a double bogey on the ninth hole with five birdies on the back nine, including three straight to finish his round of 66.

After shooting a six-under 66 to end the day in a four-way tie for second place, England’s Tommy Fleetwood is one shot behind fellow countryman Aaron Rai in a tie for third.
