“Once we were in field goal range, we were going to try to kick a field goal to set ourselves up for an onside kick and a real chance to win the game.

“[I] felt like it was a chance to get a chance for our field goal operation and not expose Matthew [Stafford] to an unnecessary heave to the end zone.

The initial objective was to try to get a two-for-one so that, with some of the play choices we had, you end up getting into field goal range a little bit earlier and then be able to try to have an onside kick to be able to go try to compete to tie or win the game.

Evidently [Rams V.
P. of communications] Artis [Twyman] informed me that many people in Vegas are upset by that choice.
Obviously, I was unaware of that information.

Those who bet on San Francisco against the spread would have won their wagers if they had triumphed by eight or more points.
But because of the field goal, the difference in points was only seven, which gave many gamblers trouble.
