The Boston Celtics’ switchable wing duo are being sent in a proposed 3-for-1 trade.

A three-for-one trade between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers, as suggested by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey, would help the former team achieve several objectives: finding a solution to any potential problems with Malcolm Brogdon that may have arisen following his failed trade to L.
A.
after the addition of Lamar Stevens and Oshae Brissett, strengthening the team’s defensive identity with more switchable forwards.

Bailey’s plan would see the Celtics acquire Terance Mann, a 2021 Clippers playoff MVP, along with former Mike D’Antoni small-ball center Robert Covington, Jason Preston, a former FanSider for PistonPowered, and Brogdon.

Bailey explained why Boston might be interested in such a deal: “Robert Covington could replace some of the multipositional defense it lost when Grant Williams went to the Dallas Mavericks, despite Boston falling out of the Clippers’ rotation last season.”.
The Celtics would gain a soon-to-be 27-year-old combo guard in Terance Mann who can contribute 70–75 percent of what Brogdon does.
Furthermore, Jason Preston, a 24-year-old wing, may have some untapped potential that Boston can use as well.
However, Preston is primarily here for salary-matching reasons.

“A little more depth at the guard and wing positions makes sense for a team that really put a lot of effort into the center position this summer and is reportedly considering giving Tatum some point guard minutes.
“.

The Boston Celtics’ Malcolm Brogdon’s failure to report, Jayson Tatum’s point guard comments seem like a hedge.

There was a subsequent rumor about Jayson Tatum taking on more floor-general responsibilities after the possibility of Brogdon objecting to the Celtics’ almost-offseason point guard trade was raised.
I don’t think that’s just coincidence.

The Cs are fumbling because Brogdon is a question mark, and it’s telling in many ways that Payton Pritchard’s potential role hasn’t been discussed.
In the 2023–24 season, Derrick White and Tatum are both expected to receive point guard minutes, suggesting that Boston may be moving toward a position-less game entirely.

Bailey’s suggestion advances the group in that direction while also bringing Preston on board as a potential low-risk, high-reward facilitator. Who rejects?
