Driver interest in replacing Sergio Perez at Red Bull has been confirmed by Christian Horner.
Prior to the end of his contract, Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, is already looking for replacements because of Sergio Perez’s sharp decline in performance.
Red Bull is actively seeking a replacement for Sergio Perez, and Christian Horner has acknowledged that they have already received “quite a bit of interest.”.
Perez has a deal with Red Bull through 2024, but after some subpar performances, his position with the constructor has come under intense scrutiny. The Dutch driver Max Verstappen, who shares the same car as Perez and is leading the season, has 177 points less than the Mexican.
Perez crashed into Kevin Magnussen during the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday and was unable to finish.
He also finished eighth in Singapore after an incident involving Alex Albon.
The 33-year-old started the season strong, winning two of the first four races, but his performance has dropped off significantly, raising questions about who might take his place at Red Bull.
Some have suggested Lando Norris of McLaren as a potential successor, while the AlphaTauri trio of Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda, and Liam Lawson are in-house options. Red Bull team principal Horner acknowledged that Norris was among a group of “many drivers that you keep an eye on” in an interview with Sky Sports, calling him “a great driver” with “a big talent, big personality.”.
However, Horner seemed to imply that he would prefer to hire drivers who are already employed by sister company AlphaTauri to fill Perez’s position in 2025.
It will never be simple to be Max’s teammate, and some drivers may be up for the challenge while others may not be, he said.
“However, we naturally keep an eye on the entire driver market in addition to the drivers we employ internally. As you might expect, some groups are very interested in driving a Red Bull vehicle.
“.
“Max is operating at such a level that his confidence, his commitment, and his talent are absolute at this time, and it’s hard to imagine someone beating him in the same equipment,” he continued.
There is, however, a lot of talented individuals out there, and we obviously want the two best drivers we can field.
So, ideally, that will come from our talent pool, but if we don’t think we have that capability, we will look outside of that to see who is available.
“.
Even though driving for the top F1 team may seem like an appealing opportunity, it can be challenging to be the weaker teammate. Former world champion Damon Hill thinks Red Bull needs to hire the right personality for the job.
“I believe the team needs Max to have a little bit more of a wingman. They are aware that Max is virtually unstoppable, he said on Sky Sports.
“Do you recall the time when Michael Schumacher ruled Ferrari and nobody could handle being number two to Michael?
I recall Ross Brawn telling Eddie Irvine, “Listen, you can’t beat him.
A racing driver hates to hear that they should “just do the best they can.”.
